Fox is home to several restaurants popular with Fairbanksans. One of these, the Howling Dog Saloon, was originally situated in Ester, but moved to Fox in the early 1970s. Across from this saloon is the Silver Gulch Brewery, the Fairbanks area's only commercial beer brewer.
In the early 1970’s there was a Lions Club in Fox but there was not a fire department. A family had a fire in their home during the early hours one morning while the family slept. Needless to say by the time the fire department from Fairbanks arrived the home was totally gone and the family of 5 was lost to the fire. The Lions Club arranged to hauled the first barrel of oil from the oil fields in Northern Alaska to Valdez by dog sled team and sold the oil on plaques to tourists then used the money to donate a fire department to Fox. The barrel is in the Valdez Museum.
